After Subaru premiered the Impreza hatchback concept at the Tokyo Auto Show last year, fans were left wanting more.
The automaker has brought it back to the limelight at the Chicago Auto Show recently and we may just see a beautiful five-door Impreza roll out to dealerships early next year.
And Subaru would be remiss not to slap on a WRX/STI badge on the five-door and turn it into a hot hatch. As reported by Torque News, the styling language of the Impreza Concept is said to hint at the future models of the Japanese brand’s lineup.
Despite the declining popularity of sedans, the Subaru WRX STI is still racking up crazy sales in the US. This popularity extends to other markets worldwide, so offering another well-received body style is going to significantly impact its sales performance.
Looking at the VW Golf R, Ford Focus RS, and Honda Civic Type-R, it is safe to say that a similar WRX STI sitting on the new Subaru Global Platform would be a guaranteed hit.
Well, whether or not it is guaranteed depends on how Subaru translates the captivating Impreza five-door concept model into production. Let’s hope we don’t get another butchering this time.
